From 2015 and Beyond!

April 22, 2021

In 2012 Program Infographic the rural medical education, that had been happening at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, went past the bridge! Dr. Andera Wendling has been working to bring our rural medical education prgrams to reach our rural communities all around the state. The program expanded to the Midland and Traverse City campuses and the Rural Community Health Program was born! Since that time we have been watching students enter the program, graduate, and do amazing things!

Here is our infographic on some of the amazing things our students have done for rural America and rural medicine.

Some of the things we are most proud about are the number of students who are caring for some of the most vulnerable through primary care. That work is important and the backbone for many rural communities. Primary care includes family medicine, internal medicine and pediatrics.

In addition, it may seem strange to brag about an 8% placement in rural residencies. However, the RTT Collaborativee sites that there are only currently 118 rural residencies situated in the United States. Therefore, there are significantly fewer rural residency spots in the United States. Our students are showing that they care about rural communities from medical school and onward!
