MSU College of Human Medicine has partnered with the Little Traverse Bay Bands (LTBB) of Odawa Indians in Petoskey and Keweenaw Bay Indian Community Health System in Baraga to enhance indigenous health training for medical students.
The pathway program begins with a two-week immersion during the first year of medical school. MSU College of Human Medicine students can participate in a two-week immersion with Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians or the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community.
To continue primary care training during the third or fourth year of medical school, students can complete the Indigenous health elective by working with medical professionals at clinics operated by either organization.
